NTCIP Standard Consistency Evaluation for Dynamic Message Sign (DMS)
Trevilon Corporation is a subcontractor to Cambridge Systematics through the
Federal Highway Administration’s Indefinite Quantities Contract (IQC) to provide
independent verification and validation of NTCIP 1203 Version 2.
The NTCIP DMS WG has recently completed its work on a User
Comment Draft version of NTCIP 1203 Version 2 which was the first ITS Standard developed
using the Systems Engineering Process. This project is intended to both provide a
roadmap of how to implement the process and improve the quality and usability of
NTCIP 1203. It is therefore important that the document is properly verified
(i.e., ensuring that there is traceability and consistency from user needs to
requirements, to dialogs, and to data definitions, as well as consistency between
the document text and the summary tables) and validated (i.e., ensuring that the user
needs and requirements are appropriate).
This project consists of the following tasks:
-
Traceability check - Trace through the
entire document, beginning with the user needs and traversing
through the requirements, interface specification and object
sections.
-
Consistency check - Ensure the
requirements contained in the document fulfill the user needs.
Verify the interface specification fulfills the intent of the
requirements.
-
Usability check - Review the referencing
scheme of the Concept of Operations (ConOps) and Requirements
sections and harmonize them for usability.
-
Review use case and interface
specification diagrams - Verify the usability and accuracy of the
various UML diagrams.
-
Document discrepancies – Note
discrepancies and provide recommended solutions.
-
Prepare new document – Create new document with said
solutions incorporated.
